Ayyanar is a revered Tamil folk deity, a guardian god worshipped in rural Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, particularly at the boundaries of villages to protect them and ensure prosperity. He is often depicted as a proud figure with a mustache, holding a blade, and riding a white horse or an elephant. Terracotta sculptures of horses, elephants, and other animals are common offerings at his shrines, which are frequently located outside village centers.
